Austin and Brown to Co-Host Ukraine Defense Contact Group Meeting in Germany – Department of Defense Announces

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Air Force Gen. CQ Brown, Jr. are set to host the 24th edition of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. The UDCG is a coalition of over 50 nations that meets regularly to discuss Ukraine’s security needs. This group was established in April 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine, with Austin leading efforts to assemble the group. The main focus of the meeting is to ensure that Ukraine has the support it needs to defend its people from Russian aggression.

During this month’s UDCG meeting, key areas of focus will include strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, supporting the defense industrial bases of coalition nations for long-term assistance to Ukraine, and updates on the UDCG’s capability coalitions, including the Air Force coalition. The UDCG continues to play a crucial role in Ukraine’s fight for freedom and sovereignty, with Secretary Austin emphasizing the importance of Ukraine to U.S. and international security. The meeting at Ramstein Air Base aims to address these critical security needs and reinforce support for Ukraine.

In addition to discussions on Ukraine’s defense, Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh provided an update on the Defense Department’s humanitarian efforts in Gaza. The motor vessel Cape Trinity has completed offloading approximately 6 million pounds of humanitarian aid in the Israeli port city of Ashdod. This aid delivery brings the total humanitarian assistance delivered to the people of Gaza through maritime and air corridors to over 38 million pounds. This effort represents the largest volume of humanitarian assistance ever delivered by the U.S. military in the Middle East.

With the completion of the aid delivery by Cape Trinity, the vessel will now prepare for its return trip to the Port of Beaumont, Texas. The humanitarian efforts in Gaza demonstrate the U.S. military’s commitment to providing much-needed assistance to those in need, showcasing the ongoing support and dedication to helping those affected by conflict and humanitarian crises. The updates on both the UDCG meeting and the humanitarian efforts in Gaza highlight the Department of Defense’s multifaceted approach to addressing security and humanitarian challenges, both regionally and globally.
