Texas Recruits Volunteers to Strengthen Border Defense, Defying Biden

Texas is defying President Joe Biden on the border issue by offering compensation to members of the Texas Military Department (TMD) to assist with border security.

The state is aiming to deploy more security assets to high-risk areas in order to prevent criminal organizations from illegally smuggling drugs and people into Texas, according to TMD’s website.

This move comes amidst ongoing tensions between Governor Greg Abbott and the Biden administration over the border with Mexico. Earlier this week, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Biden administration and determined that federal Border Patrol agents were authorized to remove razor wire that had been installed near the border city of Eagle Pass under Abbott’s orders.

Volunteers who are already members of the TMD can join full-time and receive compensation of up to $55 per day, as stated on the agency’s website.

This call for additional volunteers is part of the ongoing standoff between the state and the Biden administration regarding the border issue.

The Biden administration argues that the razor wire, installed as part of Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, hinders Border Patrol agents’ access to certain parts of the border.
