On Tuesday morning, Iraqi Security Forces, in collaboration with service members from Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, carried out strikes and subsequent raids on multiple ISIS locations in central Iraq. As a result of the operation, two U.S. military personnel were injured by an explosion while assisting Iraqi forces with site exploitation. Both service members sustained serious injuries but are in stable condition and are being transported to Walter Reed Medical Center for further care. Additionally, a third service member is being evaluated for potential traumatic brain injury.

The raids targeted several senior ISIS leaders, resulting in the killing of at least seven ISIS operatives. The joint operation between Iraqi and U.S. forces is part of the ongoing Defeat-ISIS mission. Later in the day, U.S. forces participated in an Iraqi-led operation against ISIS fighters in the Anbar province in Iraq. While the assessment of this operation is still ongoing, there were no reported injuries to U.S. personnel during this particular mission. Both raids were led by Iraqi forces, with the U.S. providing support in an assistance role.

Despite no signs of an ISIS resurgence, Sabrina Singh emphasized that ISIS remains a threat that requires continued attention. While the organization may not be as potent as it was a decade ago, ISIS still operates in Iraq and Syria, with its influence extending to other parts of the world. The partnership between Iraqi Security Forces and the U.S. military is crucial in addressing the ongoing threat posed by ISIS. Singh highlighted the importance of these joint operations in maintaining security and stability in the region.

The role of U.S. forces in supporting Iraqi Security Forces in targeting ISIS operatives underscores the ongoing commitment to combating terrorism in the region. While ISIS may not have the same stronghold it once did, the organization’s ability to operate in Iraq and Syria, as well as its global reach, necessitates a coordinated effort to prevent any potential resurgence. The joint raids conducted by Iraqi and U.S. forces demonstrate the collaborative approach in addressing the threat posed by ISIS and ensuring the safety and security of the region.
