Former Massachusetts Air National Guardsman, Jack Teixeira, was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Boston federal judge for illegally posting sensitive military information online. The 22-year-old native of Massachusetts pleaded guilty to six counts of violating the Espionage Act, admitting to distributing dozens of classified government documents on Discord, a social media platform. The leaked documents included information on Russia’s war in Ukraine, troop movements, and timelines for Western weapons deliveries to the country.
Judge Indira Talwani, who imposed the sentence, emphasized the seriousness of Teixeira’s actions, stating that he knowingly posted hundreds of documents online over a year, causing harm to national security. Federal law enforcement arrested Teixeira at his family’s home after a lengthy investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of Pentagon records.
