Centcom Launches Airstrikes in Yemen and Syria – U.S. Department of Defense Reports

Over the weekend, U.S. Central Command conducted airstrikes against Iranian-backed Houthi targets in Yemen and Iranian groups in Syria as part of the defeat-ISIS mission. The strikes in Yemen targeted weapons storage facilities used by the Houthis to target U.S. and international military and civilian vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Both Air Force and Navy assets, including F-35C fighter aircraft, were involved in the strikes in response to Houthi attacks on commercial and coalition vessels. The U.S. has made it clear that there will be consequences for illegal and reckless attacks by the Houthis.

In addition to the strikes in Yemen, Centcom also conducted strikes against Iranian groups in Syria in response to attacks on U.S. personnel in Mission Support Site Green Village. The attacks involved a UAV and an indirect fire incident with two rockets, but no U.S. injuries were reported. The strikes in Syria were aimed at degrading the ability of Iranian-backed groups to plan and launch future attacks on U.S. and coalition forces in the region conducting defeat-ISIS operations. Centcom commander Army Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla emphasized the U.S.’s commitment to defending its personnel in the region.

The U.S. message is clear that attacks against U.S. and coalition partners in the region will not be tolerated. Centcom will continue to take necessary steps to protect its personnel and coalition partners and respond to reckless attacks. The strikes in Yemen and Syria are part of a broader effort to maintain stability and security in the region and prevent further attacks on U.S. and coalition forces. The U.S. is committed to holding Iranian-backed groups accountable for their actions and ensuring the safety of its personnel in the Centcom area of responsibility.

Overall, the recent strikes in Yemen and Syria demonstrate the U.S.’s determination to defend its interests in the region and protect its personnel from threats posed by Iranian-backed groups. The U.S. will not hesitate to take action against those who target U.S. and coalition forces and will continue to respond to attacks in order to maintain stability and security. Centcom’s actions are part of a larger strategy to counter threats in the region and ensure the safety of U.S. personnel and coalition partners operating in the area.
