U.S. Central Command forces conducted precision air strikes targeting ISIS camps and operatives in Syria, resulting in approximately one dozen ISIS fighters being killed. According to Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, there are no indications of civilian casualties resulting from the strikes. The Defense Department is working with the Syrian Democratic Forces to prevent any attempts by ISIS to free its detained fighters from prison camps in the region, as this would be a significant security concern.
Ryder emphasized the importance of maintaining security in the prison camps to prevent any potential breakout by ISIS detainees. The U.S. military provides an “outer layer” of security around the detention facilities, while also focusing on disrupting and degrading ISIS operations to support the defeat ISIS mission. The Pentagon is working closely with the international community and the SDF to repatriate many of the detainees and prevent any security threats in the region.
In other developments, the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group entered its area of responsibility on Saturday. The group, deployed to ensure stability and security in the region, consists of the flagship USS Harry S. Truman, Carrier Air Wing 1, Destroyer Squadron 28, the USS Gettysburg, USS Stout, and USS Jason Dunham. The deployment of the Harry S. Truman CSG follows recent operations in the Mediterranean Sea and deployments of other carrier strike groups to the Centcom AOR.
The presence of U.S. forces in the region is aimed at supporting stability and security efforts, as well as maintaining a proactive approach in disrupting and degrading ISIS operations. The Pentagon is committed to working with the SDF and the international community to address the security concerns posed by ISIS detainees and prevent any potential threats in the region. The recent air strikes targeting ISIS camps and operatives in Syria are part of ongoing efforts to combat the terrorist organization and ensure the safety and security of the region.
